A Boston Icon With a Unique Wind Problem
The John Hancock Tower is one of the most recognizable buildings in Boston’s skyline — a slender, all-glass parallelogram designed so that from many angles the tower appears to show only a single thin face. That same design, prized for its striking minimalism, also creates significant aerodynamic forces around the building: wind moving across its sheer glass surfaces generates strong pressure differentials and localized suction at the façade, placing real stress on the glazing. It’s part of why the tower has such a well-documented history with its windows, and why any film work on this building has to account for wind loading, not just sun exposure.

That mechanical attachment keeps the film locked to the frame even under the negative pressure the tower’s shape generates at its glass surfaces, adding a real margin of safety on top of the everyday solar control and glare reduction benefits.
