Guardian Bastille installed Solar Gard non-reflective window film across a network of Shell-branded retail service stations operating under the Seasons convenience store brand throughout Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut — well over 100 locations. The project solved a specific, recurring problem at the register: candy and chocolate merchandise displayed near the storefront glass was picking up enough direct solar heat and light to bloom — turning visibly white and becoming unsellable.
Solar Heat, Not Just UV: Why Chocolate Was Failing at the Window
Convenience store storefronts are built for visibility — large expanses of glass at the register and along the front wall, exactly where candy, chocolate, and other heat-sensitive merchandise gets stocked for impulse sales. That same glass exposure that makes the products visible from the parking lot also means direct solar heat gain on the shelves closest to the window. Milk chocolate is especially sensitive: enough heat and light exposure causes the cocoa butter to separate and rise to the surface, leaving a visible white, chalky bloom that looks like spoilage even though the product is still technically fine. For a retailer, that’s shrink and a shelf that looks neglected.

Non-Reflective Solar Gard Film, Fit to Each Store
A visibly tinted or mirrored storefront isn’t an option for a branded retail chain — the glass has to stay clear and inviting from the parking lot, day and night. Guardian Bastille specified a non-reflective Solar Gard film selected and fit to each store’s specific elevation and sun exposure, since orientation, canopy shading, and glass layout vary from site to site. The result cuts the solar heat gain responsible for chocolate bloom without changing how the storefront looks to a customer pulling in for gas.

A Multi-State Rollout Across 100+ Locations
Guardian Bastille completed this rollout across Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut, working store by store to survey each location’s glass and sun exposure, then installing film matched to that elevation. Consistent, repeatable execution across a large multi-site retail account is a different discipline than a single storefront — it takes standardized specs, scheduling around store hours, and quality control that holds the same finish from the first location to the hundredth.

Results: Protected Merchandise Across a Multi-State Network
- Reduced solar heat gain at storefront shelving — less chocolate and candy bloom near the glass
- Non-reflective film — storefront appearance and branding unchanged
- Film selected and fit per store elevation, not a one-size-fits-all spec
- Rolled out across 100+ locations in RI, MA, and CT
